Rochester, New York based Ambrosia Software has announced the release of its latest game Aki Mahjong Solitaire.
Users of the Sega Master System may remember the game simply as Mahjong, where players have to remove tiles in pairs. A pair of tiles is made up of two tiles whose symbols match each other and they can be removed from the board only if there are no other tiles on at least the right or the left of the matching tiles.
Though simple in concept, a tile's match may require more than a passing glance to locate due to the obscurity brought on by the mass of tiles on the board. What's more is that many tiles' matches may be in lower levels of tiles as there are several layers of tiles. And your moves are going against a clock to boot.
Ambrosia has opted to make this game a version of Solitaire, and it may be that the game was originally meant to be played that way. But we would like to point out for no real reason other than nostalgia that Sega allowed two player games. Similarly, we would like to remark about how much clearer the tiles are to see since this game is played on a PC while the old Sega game on the much poorer resolution TV. Ah, how games have evolved!
