Hints of a non-standard PC

Apple seems to be enjoying a great deal of success with the new Mac mini it unveiled this past January. After sustaining some supply burps that some might say the company is getting to be known for, the dinky box is now widely available.

There has even been some press about atypical retailers--namely Target, interested in carrying the little Mac. And whether you love this machine or still think 500 big ones is still too much cabbage to lay down for a stripped-down PC, there's no shortage of press on this computer.

Leonard Fischer writing for the Gannett News Service wrote a piece about the Mac mini titled "Maximizing the Mini." I read it in this Sunday's Democrat and Chronicle, for March 6, 2005 on page 5E, 8E. Well to be honest, I didn't read the whole thing. By this time there is really little left to be said about the machine. If you follow the industry you're pretty familiar with the product and have probably heard all the good things and your share of nitpicking too. So, I let my laziness win and I quit half way through. Sorry Leonard.

What I did find intriguing however, is that it could be said this story was simply about a PC. Just a PC. After all, the mini really doesn't bring anything ground breaking to the table. I suppose a case could be made for the physical size of the machine setting it apart from its competition. But really it was a write-up about a personal computer in the Sunday paper. It seems everyone is jumping at the chance to chime in on this one. I've got to say I like seeing this sort of thing.
