Though it doesn't happen often, there still remain those few obtuse site developers that build with specific browser requirements. And while encountering sites built this way is irritating, Old Navy is exceptionally so since it seems to be picking on only Safari. NOTICE: This is not a rant bellyaching about how Safari is not being accepted as a viable web browser. It's simply from the fact that the "error page" identifies Mozilla--including Firefox, as being a suitable replacement.
So, exactly what is it that Safari just can't seem to do that Mozilla can, run ActiveX or something? Both browsers share a pretty similar feature set, so it's puzzling as to why one would be abandoned in favor of the meaningless "We're working on supporting Safari. Please check back soon." nonsense.
If Safari was not supported because the site employed some ill-advised technology unique to Internet Explorer [ActiveX], at least there would be a reason for the lack of support--even if it is a bad one.
It's been said there's no accounting for stupidity and it would seem this is a good example. No matter what cockamamy rationale may be cited.
You can see how the page renders in two different Mac browsers:
