History
The idea for this service began a number of years ago as an aid for the Verizon Wireless In program. In is a Verizon Wireless upgrade that allows subscribers to call other Verizon Wireless subscribers without the airtime coming off of the package minutes. If a phone number was known to belong to a Verizon Wireless subscriber then calls could be placed via cell phone to cell phone rather to a land line.
Personal Information
This look-up service does not store any personal information either about the numbers posted or the numbers being looked up. Submitting a number to the database simply requires the number, the carrier (cellular or land line), and the country the number is in.
Submitting Numbers
Numbers need to be submitted in long form less the country code and country prefix. All non-numeric digits will be ignored. For example, In the United States phone numbers are 10 digits in length excluding the country code and country prefix like this: 5852230000. These 10 digits can be broken into three sections, area code (first 3 digits), exchange (next 3 digits), and extension (last 4 digits), and are often written like 585-223-0000. Numbers may be submitted like this as well.
Looking Up Numbers
In the same way that full numbers need to be used when submitting numbers, complete numbers are necessary for looking the carrier up as well. Non-numeric digits will be ignored, and country codes and country prefixes should not be used.
Editting Number Records
Because no personal information is kept along with the number anyone can submit any number and any number's record can be modified by any user.
